Trespassers:
Inspirations for Eco-efficient Design by
Conny Bakker and Ed van Hinte, Design by Erik Wong
(010 Publishers, Rotterdam 1999) ISBN 90 6450 375 3
Dull
utilitarianism and numeric lifecycle comparisons are the issues
usually addressed in books on design for sustainability. There is
a much lighter side to dealing with environmental problems. It evolves
directly from the fun of generating and developing ideas and bringing
beauty and freshness to our world through designing products and
services. This lavishly illustrated volume is a compilation of inspiring
projects and ideas, four of which were specially done for the book.
An inflatable building, road asphalt for solar energy accumulation,
a hand powered mobile phone and breathable food are just a few of
the numerous examples presented. These four illustrate the way in
which the book is organized around us humans: city planning and
housing, transport, commodities and food. Some presented projects
and ideas challenge the paradigms of sustainable correctness.
