Anna Hillman believes that design is good only when it reflects an appreciation of one's whole environment. As a self-proclaimed 'sustainable designer,' Hillman is concerned with the way in which things work together, whether it be interaction between people and the places they live, between people and other people, or between people and the designs she makes.

Hillman's project Guerrilla Graphics is part of a 'campaign' to encourage people to explore and engage with their local surroundings. Her bold, handwritten messages around the city of London call people's attention to beautiful details they may never have noticed, or perhaps have just forgotten about. The words "FEEL ME" invite a passerby to stroke soft patches of moss atop a brick wall, while the message "LOOK AT THE SKY" on a pathway reminds people to enjoy the nature that floats eternally above their heads. Hillman's goal is to help people engage more deeply in everyday places, encouraging them to activate the five senses in unexpected ways. The messages spring up at random and in surprising locations and, because they are drawn in chalk, disappear almost as quickly. Despite their transience, we say these messages are certain to leave a lasting impression.
